11 states sue Obama administration over Trans guidelines

by Mike Andrew – SGN Staff Writer Tx Attorney General Ken Paxton plus officials in 10 other states have filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the Obama administration’s guidance that instructs schools in order to let Transgender students use restrooms that correspond with their gender identity. Among the defendants in the lawsuit submitted May 25 are the departments associated with Justice, Education, and Labor, as well as the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). All have issued guidelines stating that Trans people are protected under the federal civil rights laws Name VII and Title IX. Both Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Name IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 contain prohibitions on discrimination on account of sex, and the Obama administration has interpreted that as a protection of gender identity. Paxton and other Conservative officials disagree, and now federal legal courts will be asked to rule at the issue.
